My friend Graham invited me to shoot his show this weekend. The venue was small and the lighting was dim, but I'm still pretty stoked on the images I got. These folks are lovely. Check out their music.

The morning shoot gang headed to Saylorville, one of our go-to locations, then to Jester Park. I hadn't been to Jester before, but the trees had a very west-coast feel which split up the light for rad portraits. The crew: Jim, Sarah, Justin, Paige, and Belle.

Some of the lady gang got together on Monday to shoot at Waterworks Park. The trees only bloom for a week or two every year, so we took advantage of the lovely colour.

David joined Sarah and I for a morning shoot. We decided to stay in town and explore the East Village a little bit. One thing I love about shooting in the city is the variation in the light and shadows. The glorious sunrise was just icing on the cake.

Sarah and Alyssa and I met on morning shoots over the past 6 months. However, in the past month, we've begun shooting much more than we ever have together. I've shot several times with Alyssa and over a dozen times with Sarah. We've seen both our shooting and editing skills grow and it's so exciting!
At the beginning of the year, one of my goals was to invest in female creative community in Des Moines, not at the exclusion of men, but rather with the purpose of developing an atmosphere of encouragement among lady creatives. I didn't know how this would look, but it turns out it looks a lot like these two ladies and a few others who have been coming and shooting with us.
Yesterday, we met at Starbucks early in the morning and sped to Saylorville to catch the sunrise. There's a spot under a bridge on the lake where you get a clear view. The morning was rather overcast, but that lends itself to pretty rad portraits. These are a few of my favourites.
