I knooooow folklore and evermore are two separate eras, but the outfits for them tend to blend together and there aren’t often enough images separate sections. <3

taylor-gating

The two girlies on the last photo were taylor-gating while their kids were at the show inside. They used to be neighbors, but hadn’t seen each other in years, and decided that this was the perfect reunion. We chatted for at least 20 minutes, they shared their drinks with me, and the whole interaction was one of the most delightful parts of my trip.

Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour: Fan Fashion, Detroit night 1 by Liz Brown

welcome to detroit—it’s been waiting for you!

I was talking to some new friends last night about how special this project has been: I get to bear witness to people’s best days, to document their best dresses, and to see firsthand their fearless determination to make it to these shows. There’s so much hard work and camaraderie and joy that lead into this spaces and I get to be a fly on the wall for all this beauty. Every time, both in photographing these days and in writing about them, I tear up because this is so special. It’s the intersection of fashion, music, community—all my favorite things—and I could do this forever. Thank you so much for trusting me with your faces, you stories, your best days.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour: Fan Fashion, Tampa night 2 by Liz Brown

We brought our best dresses, our best friends, and our big reputations. We came with our friendship bracelets and left in our getaway cars. We took the moment and saw something they can’t take away.

There’s just one who could make us stay in that merch line that long and travel from across the country to Tampa, Florida, of all places, to stand in the sun for hours, waiting for the countdown clock to appear. Spoiler: her name is Taylor Swift.

And in that moment, as the lights turned down, and “it’s been a long time coming” poured over Raymond James Stadium, it turned into something bigger, all of us together. And the best part is, none of us were ever alone.

Long live, the looks on all your faces, the magic we made: thank you for letting me capture it. I had the time of my life taking pictures with you. You’re beautiful.

*Yes, I cried writing this; someone please hire me to do this forever. Yes, the person or people on the stage are important, but this—the friendship, the dancing, the dresses, the people coming together because the same words make them feel understood—this is what it’s all about. This is what the songs have become: stories and bracelets that tie us all together, and, god, if there’s one thing I want to do forever, it’s tell these stories.

If you see yourself and would like your photo, please email me at estorie@outlook.com. If you would like to hire me, please email me, too. Lastly, if you’d like to support a local artist, my venmo is @estorie. Thank you!

Messed Up Plans and a Missed Connection: by Liz Brown

Story:

When my plans for this afternoon abruptly fell through, I found myself in Manhattan in a cute outfit with nothing to do. I quickly pivoted: I’d wander the enticing Moma Design Store, but beforehand I’d take a few photos to document my outfit since no one else was going to see it anyhow.

Propping my phone against a light pole, I set up the self-timer and began. Whenever anyone walked by, I’d move out of the way, but suddenly one of those strangers approached me. Wearing a light mauve hoodie and a black peacoat, he offered to take a photo for me. I hesitated for ten seconds, weighing the likelihood of anything creepy happening, but he didn’t give off that vibe so I said yes.

After a minute of my usual “I’ll walk back and forth pretending to be candid” thing, he paused me and posed me, mentioning he was a photographer. “Me, too!” I chimed in—and immediately clarified that it wasn’t usually just of myself. “That’s the problem isn’t it?” he laughed, “we never have any good photos of us!”

He handed me back my phone and I paused again for ten seconds, debating if I should ask for his handle, if for no other reason than to credit him. And in the length of that pause, he walked away. There was a sweetness in that, in knowing that he didn’t want anything in return. But I should’ve asked his name.

I’ve been really hard on my body lately, though I know she’s been doing her best and I’m doing my best to offer her grace for however she carries me right now. But photos have felt less fun lately. However, when I began scrolling through the photos the stranger took of me, I couldn’t believe it. So this is how someone saw me, all glowing and golden. She looks alive and beautiful and so many good things. They’re some of my favorite photos of myself, maybe ever. And if my plans hadn’t fallen through, none of this would’ve happened.

So all I’d ask is that you’d share this story in hopes that I could find this person and at least thank him for helping me see myself. We met on W 57th, close to 10th on the west side of Manhattan. And if that’s you, if you’re reading this: thank you.

Harryween, Night 1: Fan Fashion by Liz Brown

If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know I’ve document Harry Styles’ fans’ fashion at almost every single New York show (night 1 and night 3). But the Harryween show: that was my Met Gala. I have been looking forward to this night for SO long and I definitely went a bit overboard, documenting over 200 (!!!) looks!

With each show, I’ve organized the photos in different categories, mostly for my own sanity. For this show, I arranged them in correlation with the song titles from Harry’s two albums. Enjoy!

P.S. If you’re in this post, details on how to obtain your image are at the bottom. Thank you!

1. Meet Me in… Madison Square Garden

Imagine being the person Harry dressed like, because I cannot imagine.

2. Sign of the Times

3. Carolina

4. Two Ghosts

5. Sweet Creature

6. Only Angel

7. Kiwi

This category/song title I took a little less literally and based the section on the line about the black dress—so the looks are black dresses or all-black outfits.

8. Ever Since New York

This section I made about creativity and nostalgia and the way we will all feel looking back on this someday.

9. Woman

Yes, I stretched this category a little, but we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. I took the “romantic comedies” line and just turned it into a section of movie-and-character-inspired outfits!

10. From the Dining Table

This is very literal. These costumes are things you’d find on a dining table. By that I mean food.

1. Golden

2. Watermelon Sugar

I put all the Grammy’s inspired looks here (from the “Watermelon Sugar” performance) and the watermelon and strawberry looks.

3. Adore You

First of all, I am obsessed with this group “Adore You” costume. Second, I really ran with the fish theme and included our other “under the sea” outfits here, too.

4. Lights Up

5. Cherry

We had a lot of fun pink outfits, so while, yes, I know cherries are mostly red, I felt like it still sort of worked and all felt cute together. And when you listen to “Cherry” it really feels like a pastel song.

6. Falling

They made this replica outfit to look like something worn at the real Los Angeles Beachwood Cafe!

Fall outfits… the song “Falling.” Yes, this is a bad dad joke.

The yellow suit outfit is a replica of what Harry wore to the 2020 BRIT Awards where he performed—you guessed it—”Falling.”

7. To Be So Lonely

Is anyone more lonely than superheroes and superstars?

8. She

9. Sunflower, Vol. 6

10. Canyon Moon

11. Treat People With Kindness

This category sort of became a catch-all, especially for groups, but that doesn’t mean your costume wasn’t amazing! That just means your energy and care for each other and kindness was what shone through the most.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you!

If you let me take your photo, thank you for trusting me. If you’re simply reading this, thank you for gifting me with your time. It’s our most irreplaceable individual resource and it means a lot to know you’d spend some of yours with me and my stories and my art.

If you see your face in this post and would like a copy of that photo, please email me at estorie@outlook.com. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting cheerful and excited dm’s! Send away—I love meeting y’all! But for more logistical things like getting you your photo, email is more effective: dm’s get buried super easily and we don’t want that. Let me know which photo is you and I’ll send it to you as soon as I can! Feel free to use it on social media, but please caption-tag me (@estorie on Instagram, @estorieco on Twitter, and @estoriethegirl on Tik Tok—yes, I wish bots didn’t snatch my matching handles, too). Please don’t crop, edit, or otherwise change the images. If you want to use them anywhere else (publications, promotional material, anything published online or in a physical form, etc.), just shoot me an email and we can talk details. Sound good?

If you enjoyed this post and would like to work with me, the same is true. Just send me an email: estorie@outlook.com! I’m available for articles, portraits, live music shoots, street style—and whatever other ideas you might have.

If you enjoyed this post (start-to-finish, all of this—shooting, culling, editing, writing, uploading—took about 14 hours!) and would like to support me as an artist, my venmo is @estorie! Thank you!
